POWERING UP. Freshman Gavin Leuthold gets ready to swing his tennis racket to hit the ball coming from the Mahtomedi Zephyrs. This was the Spartans second match of the day, and the doubles team composed of Leuthold and seventh-grader Caleb Colton were playing their match on the furthest left side of the court.

PEERING IN. Athletes look through the fence into the courts to cheer on their fellow Spartans. Junior David Schumacher said, I was really happy to get back in the matches. I think that the way this team deals with competition is really positive and fun, so I was really happy to get back into that rhythm.”

SPARTANS ON THREE. The team huddles together in the middle of the court before their second match with the captains cheering everyone on for a successful match. “Everything isnt going to go to plan in these types of conditions, but were doing a good job making the most of it, said captain Leo Benson.

DOWN THE FIVE LANE. Junior David Schumacher runs down the court while high-fiving his teammates in the line. I think that these matches really proved that we can hang with the good double A teams and its just a matter of rising to the level from an emotional standpoint, said Schumacher.

PASS THE PUCK. Charlotte Goings hads 20 points this season. Goings was the only player on the Metro-South Pheonix this year to complete this achievment . Goings said, “It’s really crazy because I was so little when I started .”

A SUDDEN TUMBLE. The Cougars No. 27 trips and falls on the ice as she chased after the puck. As the puck was getting away from her, it was a race between the Cougars and the Phoenixes to see who would get to the puck first, resulting in a fall.

SPORTSMANSHIP. After the intense match ended, the Cougars and Phoenixes lined up and shook hands with each other to show respect to one another.

UPING THE ANTE. Coach Ziegler spoke about game plans with the team as they came off the rink. Everyone gathered around as the decision to take goalie Millie Farrington out of the game in order to increase their chances of scoring was made. “It was very stressful when we pulled Millie, but I think there was nothing to lose, so I feel like it made me play a little better, said center Ella Bond.

ATHLETES MENTAL HEALTH NIGHT. It was the hockey teams mental health awareness night, and the two opposing teams came together at the end of the game to stand together in unity in order to support athletes mental health. The banner features Sophies Squad, a program that assists athletes and brings awareness to players mental health throughout the year.

BUDGE OVER. Two players from the Lakeville South Cougars squeeze player Bailey Tilley from Burnsville in between them as all three of them skated after the puck. After a lot of pushing, the puck was picked up by the Cougars.

APPLAUSE FOR THE GOAL. Lakeville South supporters cheer out boisterously in the stands as the Cougars score the first goal of the game in the second period.

TEAM HUDDLE. The Metro-South Phoenixes get together and gather on the ice by the goalpost before the game commences. Together, the team talk strategy and lift the energy levels up.

PROTECT THE GOAL. Goalie Millie Farrington immediately slides down to the ice as she saw the puck whizzing towards her. The two teams crashed into each other continuously as the attempts to score and defend the goal increased.

GET TO CRAFTING. Freshman Elizabeth Mena-Larsen and sophomore Maeve Duncan sit across from each other in the art wing as they work on their appliqué projects during the Fashion Club meeting. The two work together while chatting over the art project featured at the bottom of the photo. Mena-Larsen lays out her appliqué pieces while Duncan is busy threading a needle to sew her appliqué onto a bag.
