She went through the rebellious phase where she didn’t like superheros, but when pressed, she will watch Justice League with me. I would like her to at least know a lot about comic books, if not enjoy them,” Dean of Students Max Delgado said.

“When I was teaching in San Francisco, one of my students who was not passing my class - a kid named Miguel - came up to me one time, and he wanted to give me a letter. And the letter thanked me for not giving him a passing grade, because he for the first time took it seriously that he needed to work hard. So we’re talking about what he could do to improve, and we just had one of these sort of random conversations, and he said ‘what do you do when you’re not here?’ and I said ‘well I build boats, and I bind books, and occasionally I make beer.’ He goes, ‘oh, you make beer? My dad does that sometimes, cool.’ And he begins talking about his favorite beer. Now, this is a junior, and he’s not old enough to drink beer. So I’m in a classroom after school, having a conversation with an underage kid about his favorite beer, explaining why while he should not be drinking any beer, the beer he has chosen is probably not worth it," Upper School English teacher Randall Findlay said.

Greyson Sale (he/him) works as the Production Manager for RubicOnline. At school, he leads the Investment Club and Student Antiracist Group, is a member of the Senior Class Leadership Council, and plays Ultimate Frisbee for fun. Outside of school, he loves competitive rock climbing, pursuing climate activism, beating his friends in Fantasy Football, and listening to music.

GLORIUOS GLUTTONY. A huge proportion of state fair foods are fried, and these Fried Olives on a Stick might just be the best fried food there. Pictured left are the deep-fried, bacon-wrapped, blue-cheese-stuffed olives on a stick. Hot, rich and creamy, these are a must-try. Rating: ★★★★★.

HMONG HIGHLIGHT. Union Hmong Kitchen is a standout at the International Bazaar. Pictured left is a Galabao Bun filled with egg and pork along with a spicy green sauce. Rating: ★★★★★. Pictured right is the Pork-Shrimp Toast. Rating: ★★★★☆.

TOO. MANY. COOKIES. A well-known classic, Sweet Martha's offers one of the best sweet treats at the fair- just make sure to get them *before* you are stuffed. Rating: ★★★⯪☆

DAIRY DOOZY. Among other options, the dairy building offers deliciously fresh malts and sundaes, perfect for cooling off. Rating: ★★★★☆

BEAUTIFUL DAY AT THE FAIR. Fairgoers ride the Skyglider chairlift. Saturday, Aug. 30, was a great day, though also a hot one, to visit the fair.

INTERNATIONAL CUISINE. Fairgoers enjoy the International Bazaar. Whether it's Hmong, Caribbean, Mexican, or Mediterranean food, there are plenty of great options.

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY. A sea of pedestrians stretches from the south entrance and the Colosseum north to the Grandstand.

MIDDAY MIDWAY. The "Mighty Midway" hosts a wide variety of rides and games. It's certainly a fun place for youth, but the rides can be disappointingly tame and everything is severely overpriced. However, for those visiting after dark, this is a popular gathering place with a great night-time ambiance.

SKYWAY HIGHWAY. A view from a Skyway tram features the Giant Slide and the Space Needles, both of which are worth trying for first-timers. The Skyway, however, is a relatively short ride, and should probably be skipped if the line is really long.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE. The "Eco Experience" building displays a tornado formed out of plastic bags and even a few balloons. Run by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, the Eco Experience features many different stations themed on environmental protection suitable for both kids and adults... definitely worth a visit.

START EARLY. Learning about money (and putting it in the right places) early is a game-changer for financial success.
