Riley Tietel was a Senior Captain this year for the SMB Wolfpack State Champions. He also plays goalie in hockey, is a Captain for the trap shooting team, and plays tennis in the spring. I asked him a few questions about his game on the football field.

1) What are your pre-game rituals?

A: “My pre-game ritual on gameday is very long and specific, so I’ll try to tell you a shortened version. I wear the exact same clothes on every game day and listen to my pregame playlist on the way to school. I also have the exact same pregame meal and snacks as well as a pre-game energy drink.”

2) What kind of player are you on the field?

A: “I am a leader on the field and I just go out and try to dominate every play.”

3) Where does your competitiveness come from?

A: “After my injury sophomore year, I just wanted to play, so that fueled me to be the best football player I could be.”

4) Is there any significance to the number you wear?

A: “I am the only one in Wolfpack history to wear number 63.”

5) What is your favorite thing about playing football?

A: “I like how primal it is. There are not many sports where you can beat the crap out of a guy across from you and get rewarded for it.”

6) What’s your favorite pre-game song?

A: “’The only way I Know‘ by Jason Aldean.”

7) What’s your favorite pre-game meal?

A: “Big wreck, oreo shake, and Powerade from Potbelly.”

8)Who do you model your game off of?

A: “I don’t really model it off of anyone. I just try to be the best football player I can be.”

9) How long have you played football?

A: “Since 5th grade.”

10) What is your favorite football memory?

A: “Winning the state championship this year.”

Tietel will continue his football career when he takes the field for the University of Wisconsin-Platteville next fall.
