Girls soccer ends the season with homecoming game win

In the cold and windy October air, blue and gold stained the bleachers amidst the noise of the homecoming carnival. On Friday at 4:30 pm, Girls Soccer played the homecoming game against Holy Family Catholic High School on the Lang Field.

The game started strong for the Spartans as they kept the ball on the opposing team’s side. In the third minute, sophomore Clare Ryan Bradley scored the first goal of the game for the Spartans.

The Spartans quickly reset after celebrating. Within two minutes of the first goal, junior Sawyer Danielson scores the second goal for the Spartans.

Many attempts to score were made by Danielson and Bradley, but failed to go in. The Spartans kept a tight formation as Holy Family had possession of the ball. Holy Family attempted to score, but senior Annika Lillegard caught the ball, sending it high and far to the other side.

In minute 22, Danielson scores her second goal of the night and the third goal for the Spartans, bringing her tied for SPA’s second all-time scorer. Danielson scores again within ten minutes, bringing the Spartans to 4-0 before entering half-time and solidifying her title of second all-time scorer with 55 career goals.

In the second half of the game, Holy Family tightened their gameplay after having a long discussion as a team during half-time. Eight minutes into the second half, Grace Anseth from Holy Family scored, bringing the game to 4-1.

We just played really hard, and it paid off.

With 30 minutes remaining, few attempts to score were made by the Spartans, and Holy Family’s goalkeeper caught most. Holy Family tried to push through to the other side, but the Spartans pushed back and held out for the rest of the game. The Spartans walked off the field, tired but proud. “We just played really hard, and it paid off,” Bradley said.

The final score was 4-1. The Spartans brought home the win, making the homecoming atmosphere even more lively.

Girls Soccer’s season ends with six wins, six losses and 4 draws, including this game. With that, the Spartans head into playoffs.
