 Bukingoltss speech revolved around the idea of victimization and self help. We trap people in their tragedy, and maybe we’re starting to move past the whole blaming thing but we give power to those who have hurt them when we reduce them to the word ‘victim’ because in doing so, we take away their power to define themselves.   But that horrible period in my life that labels me as a victim is not who I am. It does not define me. I am the girl who trips over air, is constantly shushed in the library, and who once screamed so loud in the lunchroom that everyone fell silent and just looked at me, the weird loud person, Bukingolts said.

Huss Center opens as construction finishes

The Open House was from 12-1 on Aug. 27 and 28.
The gym foyer is covered by plastic sheets, blocking from the construction. “It smells like wood and it is kinda noisy, but as long as we keep the doors closed by the sophomore benches, I don’t think anyone notices it too much,” sophomore Lauren Hansen said.

Huss Center construction closes Gym Foyer

In order to make the final connection between the Huss Center and the main building, construction has began on the gym foyer.
The Huss Center nears completion.  According to Ami Berger, SPA’s liaison with the construction crew working on the Huss Center, “Landscaping will be installed in mid-July, and the repaving of Wheeler and Juno will occur in late July.”

On Feb. 27, students were offered a tour of the Huss Center. This was the last possible opportunity to tour the building before its opening in August.
A corridor will be built for performers near the front of the former parking lot.

The Rubicon reporters Boraan Abdulkarim and Diane Huang were given a tour of the progress made in the construction zone of the new Huss Center for Performing Arts by Construction Superintendent Tim Mahanna on Nov. 17.
Construction on the Randolph Campus continues during the school day. Im really pumped to have a theater, Schoonover said. Schoonover is a member of SPAs drama program and, like her fellow actors, looks forward to performing in SPAs very own theater.

The Huss Center for the Performing Arts has been under construction on the site of the old Drake Arena parking lot since June of 2014, creating a longer walk for students. The path now goes all the way around Drake arena to get to the Lily Courtyard. “It’s for a good cause so I’m not too bothered by having a little detour,” senior Jackson Lea said.
