“The opening games were great. A cold day led to a lot of errors, but it’s always good to tweak things before getting deep into the season,” senior Milo Waltenbaugh said.

Spartan Baseball returned to the field Apr. 10. They started off their season with a double header against Como Park and St. Anthony Village. After no season last year due to the pandemic, the boys were excited to be back on the field.
“The opening games were great. A cold day led to a lot of errors, but it’s always good to tweak things before getting deep into the season,” senior Milo Waltenbaugh said.
The team eased into the season with their first game against Como Park. resulting in a 17-7 win over the Cougars. With the game cut short due to the difference in scores, the team finished with confidence going into their game against St. Anthony Village. The one did not go as well for the Spartans as the first with a 2-12 loss against the Huskies.
Still, junior Judah Thomas said, “The season opener felt good because it’s kind of a return to normalcy which always feels good in the COVID era.”
With lighter regulations on outdoor spring sports, baseball was almost completely spared of regulations, beyond masking during play.
“The masks don’t really affect the game that much so it’s basically business as usual,” Thomas said.
Their next game will be against the Breck Mustangs Apr. 14.
