HerSpace members volunteer at Girls on the Run Minnesota

Girls on the Run is such a wonderful organization and it was a cool experience to help with logistics to make the 5k go more smooth.

NOTE: Nora McKoy attended the Girls on the Run event and volunteered as part of the HerSpace group. The predominantly photo story was edited by the Beats Manager and Director of RubicOnline, both of whom are not HerSpace members, in alignment with our Conflict of Interest policy.

Confidence, care, and character: these are three of the six values that Girls on the Run Minnesota works to instill in young girls. The program works with girls from third to eighth grade. GOTRM closes every season with a celebratory 5K that is a manifestation of the work put in throughout the season.

HerSpace co-president Georgia Ross is one of GOTRM board members and she got an opportunity for HerSpace and the broader community to volunteer at the headquarters. The 14 volunteers who opted in headed to Minneapolis on May 16 to spend the evening packing bags, laminating signs, sorting papers and more.

Alba Markowitz Mulet said, “It was a bonding experience that reminds me of my own time with Girls on the Run.”

The organization is a non-profit that has been operating since 1996. Girls on the Run works to dismantle societal gender norms by providing a space for young girls to be themselves, away from the pressure of gender stereotypes. This year’s 5K will take place June 1.
