Boys hockey falls hard to #2 ranked team

Senior captain Will Schavee faces off against Gentry in a hard fought game.

At what would usually be a highly attended Saturday night boys hockey game, the few parents that filled the Drake Arena stands continued to cheer their team on as they suffered a hard loss to the Gentry Academy Stars. Although the Spartans started off strong, holding the Stars to a shutout until the 7th minute, after their first goal, the first two periods were filled with one Star goal after another. After 9 unanswered goals by the Stars though, the Spartans capitalized on a power play in the 10th minute of the 2nd period, as senior captain Michael Bagnoli connected with senior John Becker. “Losing 13-1 is better than losing 13-0” Becker said. The Spartans were then able to hold the Stars to just two goals in the third period for a final score of 13-1. The Spartans’ next home game is Feb 6 versus Southwest Christain Academy.
