Wolfpack defeated in heated game against Providence Academy

There was a light rain sprinkling over the Wolfpack as they ran out onto the Blake Hopkins Campus field to face off against Providence Academy. At 7 p.m. on Oct. 20, the conjoined team made up of Minnehaha, Blake and SPA played fiercely for 2 hours for their last game before the playoffs.

Both teams had fans screaming from all sides of the field when the first quarter began. Halfway through, Providence managed to push back the Wolfpack and score a touchdown followed by a field goal, putting the score at 0-7. The Wolfpack had spirit when they tried to drive Providence back, but they were ultimately unsuccessful for the first quarter.

The second quarter came and went with anyone scoring, but not without impressive plays from both teams. The Wolfpack defense pulled off a sack on Providence late in the quarter. Providence responded by pushing the team back.

As the team began warmups during halftime, freshman Liam Sullivan said, “It’s really interesting to watch…seeing them run into each other is my favorite part.”
In the 3rd quarter, the Wolfpack showed what they’re made of. Elijah Wade scored a touchdown from over 80 yards. A field goal right was scored after. This put the score to 7-7, where it stayed for the rest of the quarter.

Tension ramped by the 4th quarter. The two teams were tied and had 12 minutes to win. Providence then scored a 20 yard touchdown putting them ahead. The Wolfpack tried their best, but were not able to even out the score and Providence went home with the win.

Punt blocker Connor Overgaard said, “I’m always nervous going into a game..I wasn’t satisfied with how I played but I know I can do better for the playoffs.” Assistant Coach Sam Hinh said, “Now is when the real season begins, everyone is getting hyped for the playoffs!”
