The concept that music is healing certainly is not new. Even outside of resources like music therapy, music truly is healing. A 2015 study demonstrated that music can help reduce anxiety and a 2020 study by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health found that music can reduce stress. While maybe blasting AC/DC won’t be calming, finding music that does is integral.
Find serenity through a favorite artist whose music loops in the background as you fall asleep, or a study playlist to force focusing. Sometimes, music just needs to be quiet and without lyrics to help focus. To find music that will help you specifically, look at music you listen to frequently with a slower tempo, lower beats per minute and lower volume. I’ve included some suggestions of calming music that have helped me:
“Little Green”- Joni Mitchell
“Better Than This”- Lizzy McAlpine
“Ricochet” – Bas featuring The Hics
“Rhymes Like Dimes” – MF Doom
“Joy Inside My Tears” – Stevie Wonder
“Celebrate Me Home”- Kenny Loggins
“Pressure”- Raleigh Ritchie
“Just to Keep You Satisfied”- Marvin Gaye
“Macy’s Day Parade”- Green Day
“Islands In The Stream”- Molly Gordon & Blake Mills
