Community Actions, a student club at Saint Paul Academy and Summit School, has taken a new approach to the coming year with more opportunities for students to become involved. Presidents Ashley Jallen, Emily Carter, Marlee Baron and Sophia Rose all hope to widen their club as well as their impact on the school community as well as around the twin cities.

“We want the word of our club to spread beyond the small sphere of girls and hope to acquire some male members into the [student] club, as well as more diversity with age.” Junior and Club President Ashley Jallen said.

The club presidents felt like in past years club members seemed disconnected from the presidents, and the club was not overall very productive. This is something they hope to change this school year. They hope to achieve this by focusing on a specific area of need in Minnesota during each quarter of the academic school year. The first quarter is focused on animals and pets, the second quarter will be focused on housing and food insecurity, the third quarter is about helping out in the community, specifically in and around the school, and the last quarter will be about environmental issues.

“We did that so each quarter we could focus on a specific thing and narrow down our options for volunteering and helping out ” Jallen said.
Community Actions club meets at x-period on Thursdays. They will be organizing lots of volunteer opportunities for students throughout the year, both in and outside of school, along with drives that students and their families can take part in.
