Students vote for new leaders in elected groups

Sophomore Riley Wheaton, who won his run for chair of the Discipline Committee, examines the list of election results on April 23. “When I was first considering running I was kind of apprehensive about running as a sophomore,” he said.

As the school year comes to a close a new kind of excitement is alive in hallways, the much anticipated student elections. Students from all grade levels have the opportunity to run for elected positions on Upper School Council, Student Activities Committee, and Discipline Committee. Elections for leadership positions on these councils were held on April 23, candidates gave their speeches during X-Period and voting occurred during lunch periods throughout the day.

Sophomore Riley Wheaton has served on the Discipline Committee for two years and is running for chair of the committee. “When I was first considering running I was kind of apprehensive about running as a sophomore.  I’ve been here for two years and both of the Chairs I’ve encountered have been seniors,” Wheaton said. Despite being a relatively young candidate for the position Wheaton expressed that this does not put him at a disadvantage. “It means a little less experience than some of the other people running, but we’ve had a pretty varied year as far as cases and I bring things some of the others don’t,” he said.

Election results were posted outside Dean Judy Cummins’s office at 3 p.m. on April 23.
