The current political atmosphere is swirling with news, leading to many heated discussions in the Student Political Union student group. The group takes controversial issues they consider to be very prominent in the United States and around the world, and exchanges views on them. The recent shooting at a Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. has been a recent topic of discussion. This led to a debate about gun control policy. This week, SPU planned to discuss the federal government shutdown. Senior co-president Nick Cohen appreciates the diverse viewpoints of the group. “I like being able to hear the different viewpoints of people who aren’t in the majority of the rest of the school,” Cohen said. Student Political Union meets every Thursday.
