Girls varsity lacrosse wins 16-6 against St. Croix Prep

The Visitation Girls Varsity Lacrosse team played St. Croix Prep May 7. This was the second game against St. Croix Prep from the Visitation/SPA co-op team, the first game being close, making winning even more important.

The Visitation lacrosse team has won three out of four games so far this season. Friday night’s game was the team’s first at home.

Sophomore Julia Colbert said, “This game was our first home game which definitely motivated everyone to want to win and play as hard as they could. We had also played St. Croix Prep before and it was a very close game, which also made us want to win this game even more.”

The team’s motivation on the field was evident, scoring 16 points to St. Croix Prep’s six. Before the first half was over, 10 points had already been scored by the Visitation team. This victory meant a lot to the team, with SPA seniors playing after their last day of school Friday, putting more pressure on the team to come together as a whole.

Senior captain Erin Magnuson said, “Friday night’s win meant a lot to us. Especially for the SPA seniors since it was our last day at school before our senior projects. Even though this isn’t my last lacrosse game with the team, the win helped end the day positively and ended my high school career with a victory.”

While motivations for many of the upperclassmen were coming from the last day of senior year, 9th grader Charlotte Goings said she was motivated by the fans being allowed in the stands again. Because of COVID, spectators have been limited, however, more recently, fans can come and enjoy the game. Goings said she “enjoyed having more fans and family members come and watch.”

Though some practices and games have been canceled due to the pandemic, the team has stayed connected and is still pushing forward, trying to finish the season strong.
