From the Runway to the Hallway: Six easily wearable fall 2014 trends

1. Knit sweaters

Already an easy, warm and comfortable option for students to slip on in the mornings, knit sweaters aren’t a trend per se, but rather an essential  wardrobe item. However, this season, knit sweaters and even pants made their way to the runways of Chloé, Marc Jacobs, Céline, and Comme des Garçons. Most popular colors? The ever versatile white and Gray.

2. Shawls and Belts

Wearing a long, flowy scarf? belt it! Earth toned scarves or even shawls paired with a narrow brown belt are cozy and foolproof ways to look sophisticated on the windiest of days. This pairing was most popular on the Burberry runway, and Jennifer Garner donned a Burberry shawl-belt look for the October 2014 cover of Instyle Magazine.

3. Gray

Never has there been a more neutral color than Gray. The subtle color can be paired with just about anything, including other solid colors or even prints. An easy combo is gray with a blushy pink color, as heavily exhibited in the Chanel Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 fashion show (the runway was a Chanel grocery store, complete with salmon filets, grocery carts,  and a colorful soda bottle display!)

4. Hint of Neon

Moderation. The key to wearing one of the most unexpected fall trends is to limit neons to a sliver of fluoresence through color blocking. Want to really make a statement? Pair a bit of neon in the form of a necklace, belt, scarf, or shoes, with a nude colored piece.

5. Metallic

Gold and silver metallics are all over the place. From Chanel’s silvers that would make the tin man jealous to Reem Acra and Diane Von Furstenberg’s shimmery golds, metallics are literally hard to miss on the runways.

6. Cheetah print

The notorious brown-and black print has risen almost to the point of becoming a neutral. Cheetah prints made a presence in the high fashion world. The most obvious combination would be black, but other easy options include light pinks, brighter oranges, and cobalt blue.
