STAYING FOCUSED. Freshman Hannah Sanders has been working on her Photo I final this week which is a project that uses inspiration from a professional photographer to create similar photos. “Grades do matter and finals are a significant chunk of your grade. Studying is a good way to ensure that your grades are impacted positively rather than negatively by not studying,” Sanders said.

Hannah Sanders knows that there’s an expectation to be stressed as midterms come up, but, knowing she’s able to prepare she isn’t feeling that.

“I don’t think [freshmen] have to be stressed,” she said.

Hannah believes the best way to approach next week is by staying informed and putting forth a little extra effort.

Going into the first year of high school, the freshman will be experiencing their first week of midterms. The idea of having an entire week dedicated to tests can seem daunting, overwhelming, and stressful but, the class of 27’ seems to think they have it under control. They feel informed and are ready to take the week on.

Part of that seems to be a relief that most of the final exams are projects. Having most of the exams in-class and extended over time relieves stress; there are still in-class tests for languages, math, history, and physics but lots of classes are using projects as their final.

Freshman Lina Abid said, “I seriously do feel like teachers provide good study guides which relieves most of the stress of exam preparation.”

Freshman Lachlan Gaspad said, “I’m going to study mostly math, science, and Spanish.”

Sanders emphasizes studying for in-class tests: “You still definitely need to study for everything.”

What are some mechanisms freshmen are using?

Sanders recommends staying on top of work. She expressed the importance of using tutorials and study halls to an advantage.

“Getting ahead on assignments works well for me,” she said. “I also set time in my day to study, I make sure to use my study halls wisely.”

Teacher-provided study guides and review packets have been distributed since the return from Thanksgiving Break. Taking notes on those will help students retain the material.

Sanders knows that “Grades do matter and finals are a significant chunk of your grade. Studying is a good way to ensure that your grades are impacted positively rather than negatively by not studying.”

Finals begin Tuesday with two exam periods and tutorials scheduled each day. Teachers have noted which Tutorial they will be available for questions and review. Make-up exams are scheduled for Jan. 8.
