NEUTRAL TONES. Senior Audrey Senaratna has transitioned to her fall wardrobe, which features warmer clothing items in colors like brown and green. Her primary inspiration when picking an outfit? Youtuber Sienna Santer. “She wears a lot of clothes that are Pinterest-y,” Senaratna said.

As hot summer days fade into autumn leaves falling, the community’s style is the first recognizable change. Fall and the start of school are so closely intertwined and yet, the summer heat does not clear out until the beginning of October. Tank tops turn into sweaters, and shorts turn into colorful denim and corduroy. Vibrant colors of the rainbow turn into neutral palettes of greens and browns. From fashion magazines, to YouTubers, to Instagram, fashion influence surrounds the community. Some things like fabrics and colors stay seasonally consistent, while certain stores, cuts and accessories change from year to year. Exposing yourself to a variety of figures with a distinct taste in fashion, and picking and choosing what elements you want to incorporate in your appearance, can be a fun way to engage with the season.
“Now it’s October and it’s getting colder, grayer, and windier,” said junior Liza Thomas. She thinks of this time of year as “sweater weather,” with her UGG slippers as a staple. But aside from the classic sweater and jeans combo, she looks to Gigi Hadid for outfit inspiration. Being in the fashion modeling industry, Hadid has access to an array of influence and unique clothing. “She puts outfits that I wouldn’t normally see together, but they work and that’s super cool,” Thomas said. In general, Thomas notes that Hadid often wears “muted earthy tones.”

BUNDLE UP. Junior Liza Thomas said, “Now it’s October and it’s getting colder, grayer, and windier.” For Thomas, this means it is “sweater weather,” the perfect time of year to pair a cozy sweater with some jeans and warm UGG slippers. (Georgia Ross)

Senior Audrey Senaratna takes inspiration from Youtuber Sienna Santer. “She wears a lot of clothes that are Pinterest-y,” Senaratna said. Senaratna finds that she can easily emulate Santer with her wardrobe at home. “She has a lot of blazer outfits and really cute, like very feminine tops and dresses,” Senaratna said. She likes the look of smaller tops or dresses paired with oversized blazers. Similarly, Thomas’s favorite combo is “when [Hadid] wears an oversized hoodie or sweater and then like a little skirt and then boots.”
This fall season, expect to see an emphasis on accessories: metallic themes such as layered jewelry and chain strap bags. Beyond that, richer hues of chocolate brown, olive green, and burgundy are assumed to make an appearance (InStyle). With some classic pieces that return each fall and some new inspiration clued in from our favorite models and figures, fall fashion offers a time of year to mix what’s a yearly comfort with what’s new.
