ANTICIPATION. Juniors Elzie Bieganek and Frances Matthews wait in the shade for the storming of the field to start.
At 4 p.m. on Friday, scores of students gathered at the top of the hill opposite Lang Field, where the boy’s soccer game was about to start. It was a hot, sunny day, a huge contrast to previous years’ cold and rainy homecoming afternoons. One of this year’s two Spartan mascots, senior Josh Holloway led the crowd in a sprint down the hill and towards the soccer field. The storming of the field has been a longstanding school tradition, meant to be a show of school spirit and to intimidate the opposing soccer team before the homecoming game.
