US Announcements: Today is election day!

1. Attention all 7-12 grade boys interested in participating on the Swim team this winter. Meet Coach Lendway, today, November 6 at 3:15 for a quick swimming meeting in the dining hall.

2. Today at Book Fest: In addition to tables full of great books to browse through and purchase if you want, Elizabeth Foy Larsen, SPA parent and author of the highly entertaining activity book Unbored: The Essential Field Guide to Serious Fun, will be available to talk to students and sign copies of her book in the Summit Center during the lunch periods from 11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Please stop by and take a look at her book. You won’t regret it. Because you need some serious fun in your life, don’t you?

3. SPA debate had another outstanding weekend last weekend. Jeron Mariani, Mason Mohring, Hagop Toghramadjian and Sam Wood won awards at a national tournament involving 90 schools from 21 states. In the local tournament, juniors Bilal Askari and John Wilhelm won their division, while sophomores Mansuda Arora, Jordan Moradian, Ian Sussna, and Amber Skarjune swept first and second place in the first year debater category. Finally, Emily Nordquist won a special award for her outstanding performance.

4. SENIORS- We will be retaking the Senior Class Picture tomorrow, November 7 at 10:15. Please meet on the front lawn near Randolph and dress warm. This picture will be used for a Senior Brunch project and your parents want EVERYONE to be in the photo!

5. SENIORS—We have received some senior page proofs back from the publisher. Please check to see if your name is on the Senior Info Board. If it is, please check your proof in Ms. Brooks’ office, 284 by 3 pm on Wednesday, November 7. This will be your last opportunity to see your page before it is printed in the yearbook. Thanks!

6. Fencing captains practices continue this week, 3:30 to 5:30 every day. Meet outside Mr. Brown’s office. Bring a water bottle, and come dressed to work out. We will be outside some days this week. All varsity fencers are expected to attend. Talk to Peter Driscoll, Francesco DiCaprio or Marie Siliciano if you are going to miss practice

7. A Happy Belated Birthday to Aditi Kulkarni whose birthday was yesterday (Monday Nov 4). – from your friends on SCLC

8. Attention 9th graders: important reminders for your field trip to the Terracotta Warriors at the MIA this Wednesday: • You will attend 1st and 2nd period classes on Wed. At the end of 2nd period, go to board the busses out back. • Bring something to write with! You will have an assignment to complete at the museum. • You will return to school to eat lunch 6th period, then attend your 7th and 8th period classes.

9. After a four year hiatus, SPA’s winter Odyssey is back. Special appearance as co-leader by Lucia Cowles class of 07. Applications available outside the deanery or on the website. See Mr. Wensman w/ questions.

10. The following students need to bring their loaners in to me at Notebook Repair so I can swap the hard drive in your loaner into your repaired machine: Vittorio Orlandi, Margaret Vlietstra, Drew Blackmun, Caswell Burr, Max Lowenthal, Ellen McCarthy and Haris Hussain. If you do not do this today, you will be locked out of the network. – Ms. Martinson

11. Election Results Viewing Party Tonight! Come to the Cafeteria to enjoy free pizza, snacks, and door prizes while watching streaming coverage of the 2012 election. Drop in to the party which runs from 6:30 to 9pm.

12. Vote today in the 2012 SPA Mock Election during 4th, 5th, 6th period lunch. You have an opportunity to cast your vote for President, Senate, and on both of the Minnesota Amendment proposals. Results will be announced at the party tonight and will appear in tomorrow’s blue sheet.
