Third party candidates debate amid little media attention

Third party candidates tend to get the short end of the stick from mass media.  They are excluded from debates and pooh-poohed in the news.  But as the flow of information becomes easier, third parties create new ways to make themselves heard.  On Tuesday, October 23, four third-party candidates will get their say in a debate broadcast over the Internet.

The debate, which will be held in Chicago, has no specific focus.  Moderator Larry King is instead asking for questions on the popular web forum Reddit.  Topics already suggested range from the Supreme Court’s Citizens’ United ruling to the war on drugs.

Debating will be Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson, Green Party candidate Jill Stein, Justice Party candidate Rocky Anderson and Constitution Party candidate Virgil Goode.  The debate will be aired on the websites of news organizations The Nation and Al Jazeera English, as well as others, at 8 p.m. Central Time.
