Every year, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) holds a single-elimination Division I Men‘s and Women‘s Basketball Tournament, featuring 68 college teams competing in March and April to determine the national champion. Famous for its unpredictable upsets, March Madness consists of seven rounds, beginning with the First Four and culminating in the Final Four, as it crowns a champion for the year. In 2024 and 2025, neither the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) men’s nor women’s basketball team qualified for March Madness. However, as of early March 2026, the Minnesota Golden Gophers men’s team is fighting for a spot, while the women’s team has been recently noted as a potential top-4 seed.
