Starting the first week back from fall break, the boys’ varsity hockey team defeated the Simley Spartans on Tuesday night in their home opener, with a final score of 5-2.
The game started strong with a goal in the first period by senior forward Ethan Peltier. Shortly after, the Simley Spartans tied the game, ending the first period with a score of 1-1.
sophomore defenseman Adem Rivers said.
In the second period, senior forward Jimmy Steiner, from Saint Agnes, scored the second goal, followed shortly by junior Liam Huddleston, making the score 3-1.
Entering the third period, senior Ethan Peltier scored his second goal of the game. Sophomore Brady Glenn, from Minnehaha Academy, scored the final goal with an empty-netter.
Beginning with this game, the hockey team is collaborating with Toys for Tots to help bring joy to children in need during the holiday season. Donations for gifts were accepted starting at 5 p.m. during the junior varsity game. Fans who dropped off gifts during the varsity game were entered into a raffle for a chance to win Spartan merchandise. Gift donations and raffle tickets will continue to be available until Dec. 14. The next game is scheduled for Dec. 10 at 7 p.m., when the team will face La Crescent-Hokah at Drake Arena.
