Audrey Jansen: Hello, I’m Audrey Janson and today. I’ll be asking students what they do with their friends without spending money as a reminder that you do not need to spend money every time you hang out with friends.

Norah Evens: I’m Norah I’m in tenth grade, my pronouns. pronouns are she/her.

Jane Duback: Oh, my name is Jane. I’m in 11th grade, and my pronouns are she/her.

Fletcher Coblentz: My name is Fletcher, I’m in 11th grade. My pronouns are he/him.

Morrow Piper: My name is Morrow. I’m in 10th grade, and my pronouns are he/him.

Jansen: What’s your favorite no money activity to do with your friends?

Evens: Um, my favorite, no money activity is to go on walks with my friends around the neighborhood on nice days and look at the nature and people walking past.

Duback: Um I think my favorite activity to do with my friends is like playing card games. I love like speed card games, like Egyptian rat slap or spit. They’re my favorite. There’s like a volleyball beach area near my house, so I’ll go over and play volleyball with my friends outside near the lake in the summertime.

Coblentz: My favorite no money activity is going to my friends’ basements and watching movies or playing football.

Piper: My favorite no money activity is skateboarding with my friends. Do you feel like when you go out with friends, do you always sometimes or never end up buying something?

Evens: Um, I would say I always end up buying something to do with food or some type of like, fun drink because there’s not much to do in St. Paul. So I always feel like I need to buy something.

Duback: Yeah, I probably say the same for me, like, in terms of food or something.

Coblentz: I think me and my friends sometimes end up buying food, but most of the time we try not to spend money because we’re all broke. And, yeah. I would say I sometimes spend money on food.

Piper: Yeah, and just like, going gas. gas stations and stuff.

Jansen: And what are activities you enjoy doing with friends regardless of money or not?

Evens: I like to get food with my friends, and honestly, just hang out with them and like talk to them and like, sit in like parking lot and just talk to them in a car or something. And then, like, drive around and in the summer, like, go to pools and, like, tan and just be outside.

Coblentz: I like going to the movie theaters or lifting weights or just hanging out outside or just hanging at the crib with my friends.

Piper: I would say getting food and playing pool in the basement.

Duback: Um, probably, like, going on off for that, probably, like, ping pong or something, or thrifting, like flea market stuff. But yeah, that only lasts me so long.

Jansen: Spending money went out with friends is not a requirement though, it can seem like the easiest option. However, there are a variety of ways. One can participate in meaningful activities with friends without taking out the wallet. And hopefully this podcast gave you some ideas on how to do that.
