Prom is a memory that everyone remembers for their whole lives. When people think back to high school, they think of the big prom dance. The anticipation of waiting two years to finally become a junior and go to prom, and then once their senior year rolls around, they get to experience it one final time. After seven months of school, juniors are ready to experience this moment, and seniors are ready to meet up with each other at an SPA dance one final time.
There are many trends each year, or different styles that are “in” or “out.” According to junior Lucia Gonzalez, satin and strapless dresses are very popular as of late. Gonzalez has an orange satin strapless dress from Revolve this year and had a satin strapless dress last year as well. “[My dress] was on sale for $90 so I’m very happy about that” Gonzalez said.
Other accessories are popular too, such as different cutouts, stickers and little designs made by various people to attach to their outfits is a fun way to make their outfits stand out more. Gonzalez talked a little bit about how prom is the biggest dance of the year, so having an outfit that they love is important to how fun the dance could be.
“I don’t really think about what I’m wearing for homecoming … Definitely for prom, it’s the big one,” she said.
Gonzalez spent an hour on her makeup and hair, and making her dress as nice as possible, which is different from her thought process for Homecoming.
Junior Johnny Rog talked about being excited but unsure as to what to expect for prom night. Rog spoke about his outfit he purchased from Men’s Wearhouse. “I got a black suit with a blue tie, maybe [some] jewelry, … black shoes… not trying to stand out a lot.” When asked if he was looking forward to prom, Rog replied “I’m definitely gonna remember this one later in life.”
Rog furthered how he believes the trend for different boys going to prom was people “trying to blend in” and being more subtle within the crowd. Needless to say, no matter if people try and blend in or stand out, everyone is filled with anticipation, ready to have a great time.
Gonzalez, Rog and the other juniors (and seniors) experienced what it’s like to be having fun at Prom on Saturday.
