[MUSIC REVIEW] Nathan Zed weaves playlists into narrative

Music can have a huge impact on people’s lives, as many interpret the lyrics in ways that closely relate to their own lives. Listening to music can also be a way for many people to de-stress and relax. As the world around us gets busier, it’s important for people to take a step back from it all and focus on what it is important, which is themselves.

YouTuber Nathan Zed began spreading mind and body positivity by selling hoodies and t-shirts with the statement “Good Enough” printed on the front. Zed uses his merchandise to remind people that they are important, and need to remember that. In addition to his “Good Enough” campaign, Zed created four unique musical playlists that are each part of a larger story. The four playlists tell the story of a fictional character named Caleb and his new romantic relationship, and the ups and downs that come with the relationship. The playlists contain songs from popular artists like Childish Gambino, Kanye West, and Post Malone, but Zed changes the way his audience has previously heard the songs by using them as part of his overall story. Zed’s playlist illuminates how music can be manipulated and turned into anything imaginable whether it be a playlist to bring along to the gym or meaningful songs strung together to tell a story.

HONEY: [GOOD ENOUGH] PART I
THORNS: [GOOD ENOUGH] PART II
SPIRAL: [GOOD ENOUGH] PART III
BLOOM: [GOOD ENOUGH] PART IV

Rating:

The four playlist “Good Enough” saga changes the way other playlists are viewed, as Zed goes beyond the typical steps to create a playlist and tells a full story through nothing but music.
