ECLIPSE. A solar eclipse is a rare event in which the moon is between Earth and the Sun, blocking the view of the sun. In other parts of the United States, the view of the Sun will be totally blocked, constituting whats called a total eclipse. A total eclipse is a completely different event that is another level of coolness. So if they [the students] have that chance, they should absolutely take the chance to see a total eclipse if they ever can. The next one in Minnesota will be the year 2099, Astronomy and Planetary Science teacher Joseph Martin said.

The team, made up of SPA seniors Rishi Bhargava and Connor Overgaard, Highland Park senior Fred Myers and Highland Park junior Jon Bailey-Zimmerman, broke the SPA and Highland 200 medley relay record at sections. Their time was 1:39.65.

PAELLA DAY. Taher CEO Bruce Taher visited the Randolph campus Thursday to prepare paella. “It’s something nice to bring a little bit of different culture to the school and gives the students here a chance to try some different cuisines,” head chef Tom Chiller said.

WHOLE FOODS. CEO Bruce Taher (right) founded his food service management company in 1981, fueled by a passion for ethically sourced food. “We prepare 75% of the food that we serve from our own ingredients … without preservatives, no additives, none of that stuff,” he said. Chris Leow, (left) is the district manager of the company and attended Paella day alongside Taher.

SEAFOOD PAELLA. Paella, a Spanish dish with rice and vegetables, often has seafood in it. Schiller’s paella contained mussels, shrimp, chorizo and vegetables.

SOURCED INGREDIENTS. Due to paella day, many students tried foods they do not typically eat, such as mussels. Even some students who tend to avoid seafood sampled the paella.

LEFTOVERS. Paella and its ingredients were stored between upper school early and late lunch to ensure there would be enough. Taher offered some students to-go boxes to bring a dish of paella home to their families or to enjoy later.

TEAM OF CHEFS. Head chef Tom Schiller was all smiles for paella day Thursday. “Bruce takes a bunch of our Chef Council … theyre corporate chefs, they take a trip every year to a different country.
