[SPA SHORTLIST] Ep. 3: Movie recommendations

August Gaspard: [Introduction] Everyone loves a good movie but it can be very hard to find. Well, today I’m going to solve that problem with some local movie recommendations straight from the SPA. Hi, I’m August Gaspard and welcome to the SPA shortlist. Let’s get straight into it and see what people have to say.

Milan Mishra: Moana

Ben Macedo: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,

Liam Huddleston: Happy Gilmore

Gaspard: That’s Ben Macedo, Liam Huddleston and Milan Mishra. They are all ninth-graders at SPA and they have some very interesting reasons for why they like these movies so much and why they would recommend them to the broader SPA community.

Huddleston: But Adam Sandler starts playing golf. It’s really inspiring.

Gaspard: For Liam Huddleston, a very funny performance from Adam Sandler and the movie just being hilarious overall, makes this a great movie for a wide variety of people.

Huddleston: Anyone who just wants to get a good laugh.

Gaspard: Happy Gilmore has a 61% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics but an 85% audience score making it the ideal movie for a more casual movie watcher. Now we turn to another comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Ben Macedo has many different reasons for liking this movie but nostalgia is a key part of that.

Macedo: I guess I first watched it in like 2017 or something.

Gaspard: Ben first saw this movie a while ago with this dad and has good memories from seeing it the first time but it’s not only nostalgia that keeps Ben coming back to this movie and recommending it.

Macedo: It’s just a nice movie. It’s a good one. It’s also funny.

Gaspard: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off has a 92% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and is just a great watch if you’re looking to watch a fun, relaxed chill, and also very funny movie that really puts in the coming of age story of transitioning from high school to college.

Now we flip genres completely. From comedy movies to an adventure Disney movie. Millan Mishra says that Moana has many unforgettable moments that make this movie special.

Mishra: I will never forget the moment when Tamato the crab talks about when he ate his grandma.

Gaspard: Moments like Tamatoa mentioning eating his grandma.

“Moana: Hey that’s My Grandma!

Tomatowa: That’s my grandma. I ate my Grandma!”

turn Moana into a very interesting watch for almost everyone. But a strong cast also contributes to this movie’s enjoyability

Mishra: but the rock plays a very strong supporting role.

Gaspard: A very strong performance out of Dwayne The Rock Johnson, who plays Moana’s most trusty ally Maui, contributes a lot to the overall enjoyment and the replayability of this movie. The Rock isn’t the only outstanding actor in this movie, as in general, the acting in this movie is just overwhelming.

Mishra: But the voice acting was great.

Gaspard: It’s no surprise that in 2017 Moana won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement for Voice Acting, which is just one of the best rewards you can win for an animated movie that has all voice actors. But the main reason Millan watches this and would recommend it to other people is not just for the voice acting or is a nice moment scattered throughout the movie.

Mishra: Focus on the outdoors nature and growing up as a kid is very impactful to me, and I think it’s very impactful to many of the kids watching.

Gaspard: [Outro] Not only has Mauna had a great impact on millions, but it has also had a great impact on its general audience and critics receiving a 95% critic score. A very rare on Rotten Tomatoes and 89% Audience score. So this movie is just an all-around great movie that anyone really young or old could see. Well, that about wraps it up for today. If you have not already I would really recommend going and seeing one of these movies if you have not already. I’m August Gaspard and this has been the SPCA shortlist
