Rough-and-tumble rugby games offer sanctuary for Marcus Alburez

Junior Marcus Alburez finds a passion in rugby. Alburez’s love for rugby has continued as he has found it to be a relief  from school and stress. Alburez enjoys many aspects of the game, but most significantly, he enjoys the friendships he has formed. “I like the camaraderie. I play with [middle school teacher and rugby enthusiast Eric] Salverda and am going to be training with the Guatemalan team over winter break,” Alburez said. Alburez takes pride in playing and is grateful to have started playing. “I started because [former seniors Noah Mische] and Bayert [Salverda] encouraged me to. Also the British side of my family all plays,” Alburez said. Alburez encourages anyone even remotely interested to try it. “It’s really fun and if anyone’s interested in joining they should talk to me or Sal.”
