Q: What has your experience in quarantine been like?
I’ve had a lot of free time but I’m a little sad that we won’t be able to play our spring sports and I won’t be able to go to [my local community center] that shut down pretty early in the quarantine process. Although I’ve been stuck in my house, I’ve had a lot of time to work on my basketball skills as we have a basketball hoop in our yard and that’s usually how I stayed active during the break.
Q: Why do you think it’s important to keep working on your basketball skills during the break?
I’m working on my basketball skills to get better for the upcoming season. I have a season of basketball coming up later this spring and in the summer so I’ve been trying to work my shooting and building up strength.
Q: Have you done any other methods of staying active this break?
We have weights in our house and my older brother and I have been working on lifting and building our strength. Daven has been teaching me how to properly use weights and some other workout methods to keep my strength up for the basketball season.
Q: What do you say has been different now that the virus has been affecting a lot more people than before?
Both of our parents are doctors so they’re constantly in and out of the house and on different conference calls because they have a lot of work to do with the coronavirus spreading to more and more people. I’m really happy that my parents are able to go out and help with this escalating situation and we’re all trying in this household to help them with chores and other things to make sure that they are able to finish their work and relax because they’re working very hard and for a long time.
Q: What’s been difficult about quarantine?
It’s been difficult being stuck at home because I can’t see my friends or go out to the community center but I know staying inside and away from people is the best solution to this problem and that’s the only way we can get out of quarantine. I understand that the virus is like really bad and we now have to be really cautious about our decisions and where we choose to be while this is all taking place.
Q: What do you think will be challenging with the new distance learning plan?
It’s just starting out but I think this distance learning plan is difficult for everyone including teachers. It’s going to be difficult not to get distracted because you’re in your own home with phones and video games and it can be really easy to get distracted when you’re supposed to be doing homework or preparing for a class. I’m grateful that our teachers put all this work and effort into the distance learning process so we can all learn during this tough time.
