On Feb. 7 and 8, students participating on the trip to India over Spring Break sponsored a bake sale. Proceeds from the sale went to Pardada Pardadi Educational Society and Butterflies in India. Pardada Pardadi Educational Society strives works to provide educational, economic and social empowerment to girls and women. It provides job opportunities, healthcare, free education and livelihood enhancement for girls and women in communities in India that often limit the opportunities females have. It also enables them to make money and break out of the cycle of poverty they are born into. Butterflies focuses on helping vulnerable children, especially those that live on the street or are working, become self-reliant and also escape poverty.

Students going on the India trip raised money for organizations in India by selling baked goods during lunch.

“We’re all going to India, and so we want to help make an impact on the community before we go. Also, this allows us to give back to a more global community yet still make a strong impact,” sophomore Maxanne Millerhaller said.

The students that organized this bake sale will be traveling to India over SPA’s spring break.
