With the winter sports season wrapping up, the next sports seasons are springing into action.

“We have had captain’s practice for about four or five weeks now,” Varsity Baseball player Jesper Salverda said. “It is just Wednesday mornings before school—we just kind of throw a bit, take some grounders and stuff.”

Numerous other sports, including track and softball have had informational meetings and optional practices after school for interested participants.

“From my experience, [captain’s practices] are more fun and less serious than normal practices, so in that way, they are a different experience just because they are more fun and less strict” sophomore Emilia Hoppe, a member of the Track Team, said. Practices have included three-mile runs and core-focused workouts.

Similarly, Salverda said “Captain’s is actually a pretty fun way [to get to know teammates],” Salverda said, “It is a pretty relaxed, just throwing it to other guys, talk.”

In addition, Varsity Softball player Sarah Murad said that captain’s practices are “useful because most people haven’t practiced softball for a majority of the year, so it is nice to practice your hitting and your throwing before the actual season starts which is when Coach Ross helps us.”

“It is nice to get some practice in before he is there so we don’t look terrible,” Murad added.

“You get to know people on the team, for sure, and laugh a lot,” Hoppe said.
