GVS plays Mounds Park Academy in scoreless match at home

 

Spartan girls soccer played Mounds Park Academy on Lang Field Sept. 15, for senior night. The first half was filled with SPA’s multiple offensive plays, but the plays did not result in any goals leaving the first-half score at 0-0.

There was a special announcement for the seniors on the team during half time. Each senior member: Julia Baron, Olivia Lagos, Erin Magnuson, and Izzy Medrano, received a sign, flowers, and a special introduction to the fans, including their best moments from soccer, their favorite hobbies, and what they’re looking forward to in the future.

When game play resumed, the second half was filled with offensive attempts but no shots made their way into the net. With five minutes left in the game, player 14 for MPA received a red card for yelling at fans. In the last minutes of the match, MPA’s defense withstood SPA’s attempts for a goal.

The final score of the match was 0-0, resulting in a tie. “I think we played well, we just didn’t get our shots off,” sophomore Julia Colbert said.
Their next game will be Sept. 17, at 5 p.m., where they will play Breck at the Breck School.
