This year Steve Boese who is the new head chef was hired at SPA and since his arrival, there has been a significant change in the menu of the lunches here on campus. The lense has changed from a comfort food to more healthy food while still being good food. Boese is trying to provide more options for students to make everyone want to eat. With the addition of a second line in the cafeteria eating food in the time that students have has become easier.

These changes allow students to have a healthier, more rounded diet allowing them to continue growing.

The average teen needs a well rounded diet to maintain their growth, this includes Fruits and vegetables, Calcium, Protein, Whole grains, Iron-rich foods, and limited fat. In the cafeteria there is are new vegetarian bowls which include vegetables, whole grains and protein. These bowls are ideal for vegetarians and vegans as they provide all the necessary nutrients. There is still the simple foods, like burgers and pizza, but this added healthy options allows for students to eat better. Along with the bowls the staff has made an effort to have more fruit, with peeled or cut up fruit always being served beside the salad bar. There is also more variety in the fruit baskets that are available to students throughout the day. These changes allow students to have a healthier, more rounded diet allowing them to continue growing.

The lunch room recently added a second line to help students get food quicker. At the start of the year this was unknown and Boese even stood in the lunchroom telling students about it. The line allows students who do not arrive early to get their food faster. After one is done with their first helping of food, this line allows easier access to more food as students still do not use it too much. This space before was used to put random food on but this new line still gives space for additional food to be placed around.

In addition the lunch staff have also stopped handing food to students which allows them to choose what they want more. A student must grab a plate and then ask or serve for each food they want. This allows for a more diverse plate and less food waste.
