People across the globe are being vaccinated, and even if it feels like you’ve done your part, you can still help your community keep vaccination rates high and COVID-19 cases low by volunteering at St. Paul Corner Drug.

Sophomore Theo Bonin completed his 12 required hours of community service at St. Paul Corner Drug. He checked in people who had scheduled appointments, filed their insurance, and updated their vaccine cards to prepare them for the vaccine.

He said that “They had to teach me how to file out the insurance part of the paperwork, but it was pretty easy.”

St. Paul Corner Drug vaccinates against COVID as well as Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, HPV, Influenza, MenACWY, MenB, Pneumococcal Polysaccharide, Pneumococcal Conjugate, Shingles, Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, Typhoid (oral), and others.

Bonin said, “I chose to volunteer there because it was close to my house and I thought helping with vaccines, at this time especially, would be nice. I know they’re doing a lot of vaccinations year round with a lot of people, so it’s nice to help out.”

Helping keep your community safe from diseases builds a strong sense of community and can stretch students to get to know the people that live by them. It also is a great form of social skills practice.

“It’s pretty easy, but it does require a lot of talking so if you want to get better at that this is for you,” said Bonin.

Bonin was able to complete his hours with other people and have plenty of chances to chat with them while the people trickled in to get vaccinated.

He said, “First, I did it with Rishi for a little bit; then I just did it with my mom.”
