The boys varsity basketball team improved their record with a tight 58-55 win against the Lourdes Eagles on Saturday.

“It’s a big win. It was really important for the team and we came together and played well. It was close, but we got it in the end,” senior Ryan Peacock said.

In what turned out to be a very close and exciting game, Dalante Peyton scored 27 points. Making five three-pointers in the first half, he led the team to victory.

“He’s a very good player and shooter; I’m happy for him. He’s a big part of this team,” Peacock said.

The games started out with a Spartan lead. At half-time, the Spartans had a lead of 35-24. As the second half began, though, Lourdes turned it on. With an impressive post play, the Eagles managed to bring the deficit down to just seven points with eight minutes left. This put the Spartans in a tough position, and slowly the Eagles took a 51-50 lead. Right after that it was as though the Spartans turned a switch back on. Seniors Dalante Peyton and Kent Hanson both made crucial shots to regain the lead. From there the Spartans contained the Eagles and pulled out a 58-55 win.

Junior varsity and C team basketball had their own games against the Eagles; both teams lost:  Junior Varsity 39-55 and C team 56-49. JV had a tough game.  Trailing 30-9 at half they managed to make a slight comeback but, in the end, it wasn’t enough. C team had a fairly even game except for a run from Lourdes where they took an 18 point lead.

The boys basketball teams will face New Life Academy on Nov. 28.
