Ariana Grande on YouTube
After a long time of teasing new music, Ariana Grande dropped a new single and music video last night. She released the song “Positions,” the predecessor for her next album. There is a countdown on her website for her album, also called “Positions,” which will come out Oct. 30. It will be Grande’s sixth studio album.
The “Positions” video stemmed conversation since the music video had lots of shots resembling the presidential office and the video was released hours before the presidential debate. This is the final presidential debate before the Nov. 3rd election. Grande’s video depicted a very diverse depiction of the white house as she switches between shots of the oval office and a kitchen. The video was directed by Dave Meyers, whom Grande previously collaborated with on her “No Tears Left to Cry,” “The Light Is Coming” and “God Is a Woman” videos.
The video itself is a statement on the future election. The video features the 27-year-old singer as US president while making light political jabs; Grande is shown chairing cabinet meetings, holding press conferences, and walking dogs on the White House lawn. The other people in the video, the members of the cabinet, are all very diverse and display imagery of a group of people that has never been seen in the White House. She’s also shown handing out medals to postal workers, whose service Trump has been impeding.
Ariana singing #POSITIONS with kinda sexual lyrics in white house means she’s saying: women r the ones who r running everything. From politics to bed. Men couldn’t, NAVA

Many fans are criticizing Grande’s decision with her lyric choice with her video + release date. While the video depicts her as a working woman and with a lot of power, the lyrics are mainly sexual. While songs about sexual topics are praised and are okay to write about, some fans believe that the combination of sexual lyrics with the oval office is untasteful. Other fans disagree and are praising Grande’s video. Twitter user Oliver Jose said “Ariana singing #POSITIONS with kinda sexual lyrics in white house means she’s saying: women r the ones who r running everything. From politics to bed. Men couldn’t, NAVA.”
After only 18 hours, the video has 15 million views and is currently 2nd on youtube’s trending page. The album is set to drop Oct. 30 at 11:00 PM CT.
