The waiting is over; the summer blockbusters are here. The limbo months of February through April, when movie studios release a string of duds and films that should have gone directly to video, are over.

The summer of 2015 will feature the typical big-budget, special-effect filled blockbusters, but unique this year is the number of remakes and revivals that have been filmed. There will be 18 remakes, sequels, spinoffs and comic book adaptations opening this summer. The next four months could be the most profitable in Hollywood history, if previous box office success is any indication.

Avengers: Age of Ultron” kicked off the summer season on May 1. This movie is a prime example of a great series that will hit it big at the box office. The original “Avengers” movie made the most money ever in an opening weekend at $207 million. However, “Age of Ultron” has racked up $562.4 million internationally, outpacing its predecessor by about 20%. Domestically, it fell short of “Avengers” at $191.3 million on its opening weekend. As predicted, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” far outshone other movies that will be coming out in the coming weeks.

Among the list of sequels, remakes and revivals, am most excited to see, “Mad Max: Fury Road” (opened May 15), has not only set out to be one of the biggest box office hits of the summer, but also among a small group of blockbusters that also go down in a category of being a quality movie. While it didn’t make as big a splash at the box office as Pitch Perfect 2, yet another sequel, is expected to have a decent run.

Beyond the typical superhero blockbusters the newest animated release from Pixar, “Inside Out” will please everyone from young to old (because Pixar has that type of draw), and there has been a lot of buzz behind two Sundance Film Festival dark comedies, “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” and “Dope.”

As many students make their way back to the theater, some will choose the high budget film with big name actors and some will decide to go with the more independent films. Whatever one students chose, they are in store for an amazing experience.
