Senior Peter Kilborn makes a save to end a Blake threat on a breakaway goal.

The Boys Hockey team played against the Blake Bears at Drake Arena last Thursday. Senior Peter Kilborn started his first varsity game in goal for the Spartans and put in an overall stellar performance. The game started out fast, with both sides skating around and maintaining a fast pace. The Spartan’s defense played with energy and dedication, the number of times that a defenseman dove on the ice to stop a shot was uncountable. Blake put in two goals towards the end of the first period. The second period started with a big push from the Bears and they ended up scoring 5 goals in the period to put the score at 7-0. The Spartans came out in the third period with a strong performance, but the team definitely wore down over time and the Bears ended the game putting in 4 more to bring the final to 11-0. Even though the scoreboard doesn’t show it, this was an overall competitive game highlighted by Kilborn’s 81% save percentage with 60 shots.
