[PHOTO GALLERY] Art party welcomes all students for after school celebration

When I heard there was the painting party, I knew it was going to be the perfect time for me to finally paint a picture I had taken a while ago.

Students were encouraged to forget about academics and relax while painting during the Iris: Art + Lit painting party held on Oct. 12 after school. All painting materials were available for anyone who wanted to participate, along with snacks and music.

For some students with hectic class schedules, the painting party was the perfect way to let creative juices flow and paint. Ninth grader Annika Brelsford is unable to take a painting class during the first semester due to graduation requirements but was able to put her visions on paper at the painting party.

“When I heard there was the painting party, I knew it was going to be the perfect time for me to finally paint a picture I had taken a while ago. The picture itself is of me but I’m painting it as if it’s not me, as a way for me to not get caught up in the details that are shown in the picture,” Brelsford said.

The painting party lasted around an hour. Iris: Art + Lit plans creative public events once per quarter.
