Peer Helpers prepare for the year with new members
With new faces around the circle during meetings, this year’s Peer Helpers group dived straight to work. Initial meetings involved discussion on plans for the year, including the Peer Helper retreat, and introductions to allow the group to bond.
Senior Sydney Kuller is a new member. “I wanted to be a Peer Helper because… I feel like I’m the kind of person that my friends come to when they have problems and I wanted to help more people, too,” she said. Peer Helpers try to tackle a main topic each year, such as substance abuse.
“If we’ve seen a problem in the community, we address it and talk about how we could help,” Kuller said, “or if there’s a specific person who we could support by being friendly or saying ‘Hi’ in the halls.”
Currently, no freshmen are on Peer Helpers but they will be selected for the group later in the fall.
