The Orca Tribe is a project that seeks to connect, promote and inspire local young artists.

The orca whale has the third largest geographic distribution of any mammal and has evolved a unique and tightly bonded social structure and communication system. These ideals are exactly what seniors Lutalo Jones, John Connelly and Diane Huang had in mind when they founded the Orca Tribe Project, an organization that is dedicated to promoting, publishing and connecting local young artists.

“The idea of Orca Tribe is to be able to connect all forms of art. We have graphic designers, photographers, painters, cinematographers and the spectrum just continues on,” Jones said.

The company currently functions as a platform for publication, where artists can submit their work and Orca Tribe will publish or promote it. But the company founders have a more ambitious and dynamic long-term goal.

“My long term vision is that this becomes a movement larger than just an art publication. I want young artists around the world to connect and collaborate with each other. My goal is for us to be a social media platform for artists to connect and collaborate through,” Jones said.

The Orca Tribe Project launch party is on Friday, May 12 from 7-10 p.m. at the Public Functionary in Minneapolis. There will be musical performances and art displays by local young artists. Tickets are $10, cash only. Find more details on the event page.
