Star Wars fanatic freshman Lily Nestor excitedly awaits the upcoming movie releasing in theaters soon.

“My first reaction was a really good one. I was happy that the movies would continue and especially the fact that Disney wasn’t going to get rid of our favorite characters,” Nestor said.

It’s been a mere thirty years since the Jedi defeated the Galactic Empire, however now Han Solo and his allies face a new threat: Kylo Ren and his ruthless army of storm troopers. Star Wars: The Force Awakens directed by J.J. Abrams and with Disney has put Star Wars fans on the edge of their seats as they wait for the upcoming movie to release to theaters. There is much debate about whether or not Disney and J.J. Abrams will live up to the hype this movie has provided through it massive advertisement.

“I think Disney will do a good job. Aside from over commercializing Star Wars they have done a good job in promoting it and as far as I have heard the new Star Wars will not be as Disneyfied as other franchises have been,” Nestor said.

Aside from Nestor, sophomore Freddy Keillor greatly anticipates the upcoming movie. Keillor has been an avid fan of the franchise ever since he was three-years-old, when he was introduced by his father.

I think it’s going to be a worthy and noble addition to the Star Wars collection

“I think the first time I heard about Star Wars was when I was three and my dad talked a lot about it to me. I found it so incredible. Knights from across the galaxy, giant space battles, it was just so amazing,” Keillor said.

An ongoing debate about the upcoming movie among Star Wars fans is regarding what Disney will do to the new movie and how they have been commercializing it excessively. Things like apparel, school supplies, children’s toys and even an interactive website specifically for the movie have been released.

“My expectation is that they don’t ruin the franchise. I want the fans to like it so they don’t really keep bashing on them[Disney],” Nestor said.

Keillor also believes that Disney will not have a negative impact on the movie or the franchise.

“I had my worries at the start when I heard that George Lucas[creator of Star Wars] was giving the rights to Disney, but I think they’ve put it in the hands of a director who really understands the entire cultural phenomenon of Star Wars,” Keillor said.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out in theaters on Dec.18 and is definitely one of the most highly anticipated movie of 2015, which suggests its inevitable box office sale success.

“I think it’s going to be a worthy and noble addition to the Star Wars collection,” Keillor said.
