Caption: Freshmen Ben Konstan, Tucker Waltenbaugh, Larry Chen, and Adnan Askari spend their tutorial finishing up work on their new Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga laptops. “The keyboard gets sucked in and the buttons don’t work anymore so when you swivel you aren’t accidentally typing,” Chen explains, citing the new computer’s most distinctive feature.

Whether at school or at home, technology plays a prominent role in every student’s school day. Short battery life, bulkiness, and long start up wait times all are problems students deal with every day at St. Paul Academy and Summit School. However, some have it easier than others–the new Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga computers for the freshman class provide a “very touch friendly experience…you can access your programs in a totally different way,” Upper School Technology Coordinator Chris White said.  Freshman Larry Chen agrees that the start up time is much improved, but his favorite feature is the retractable keyboard. “The keyboard gets sucked in and the buttons don’t work anymore so when you swivel you aren’t accidentally typing,” he said. White also is in favor of this new feature: “it’s kind of like an iPad…they [also] have Windows 8 with a start up page with icons,” he said “it starts up in about six seconds, shuts down in about ten…[the new computers] really provide a more icon based solution [for classroom learning].”
