[MY GEEK FACTOR] Tietel harvests his passions through farming

My favorite part about farming is that I’m not working with my brain too much and that I’m in the country.

— Junior Riley Tietel

A typical Saturday morning for junior Riley Tietel starts with a drive out to rural Minnesota to check on his crops. Through hard work, sweat, and dedication Tietel is able to see his dreams come to fruition. Currently, farming is a solo job for Tietel, but he hopes to expand his work in the future.

“I want to work with a lot more farmers and get a better understanding of how Minnesota farmers keep their land organized and how they farm during the winter,” Tietel said.

Tietel’s first step to farm more is to study agriculture in college.

“I’m not sure where I’ll go to college, it mostly depends on who scouts me for football. Right now my top schools are the University of Minnesota-Crookston and the University of Wisconsin-Plattville,” Tietel said.

Tietel looks forward to farming after his day-to-day routine becomes too consistent.

“My favorite part about farming is that I’m not working with my brain too much and that I’m in the country. It’s nice to mind my own business,” Tietel said.

Along with farming, Tietel spends his time playing football, trap shooting, and managing the boys hockey team.
