One look as you go past the corner of Randolph and Wheeler will tell you all you need to know: the Huss Center is nearing completion.  Each day it seems that a new wall or window is put in place, and what was once a simply a collection of concrete and rebar is slowly but surely forming into the state of the art facility that St. Paul Academy and Summit School drama and music enthusiasts will call home in the fall.

To give a perspective on how the Huss Center will match up to other theaters in the area, consider this:  the Janet Wallace Fine Arts Center of the University of Macalester seats only three hundred,  while the Huss Center will offer six hundred and fifty seats for play and concert goers.  The Huss Center more than doubles the capacity of Cretin Derham Hall’s Lillian Theater, which only seats three hundred and twenty.  The one area theater that outmatches it is the O’Shaunessy theater of St. Catherine University, which seats one thousand eight hundred and twelve people.

Described as a “modern window filled structure” the Huss Center is sure to become not only a local point of interest but also rallying point for the community in which people can gather to revel in the fine arts.

According to Ami Berger, SPA’s liaison with the construction crew working on the Huss Center, “Landscaping will be installed in mid-July, and the repaving of Wheeler and Juno will occur in late July.”

Whether someone be a musician, actor/actress, or just a student looking for a place to hang out, the Huss Center will be a welcome place for all this fall.
