Grammy Awards ultimately a smashing night of sound and fury

Coming off of a particularly odd night of Grammy Award selections, popular folk group Mumford and Sons edged out rapper Frank Ocean and his Channel Orange to take home the top honor of the night, Album of the Year, for their record Babel. They did not, however, take home their nomination for Best Rock Album- that honor went to The Black Keys’ blues-rock collection El Camino. Also well-honored was theatrical pop group FUN. The trio took home the title of Best New Artist, as well as Song of the Year, a songwriting honor, for their hit “We Are Young.”

Record of the Year, an honor for performance and production, went to Australian musician Gotye and his counterpart Kimbra, the duo behind “Somebody that I Used To Know.” Dan Auerbach, mastermind of the Black Keys, was named Producer of the Year, against strong competition from producer Diplo. In another notable event, Canadian rapper Drake became the first non-American musician to win Best Rap Album, a category he took with his record Take Care.
