Google Nose how to play an April Fools joke

As perhaps its most elaborate April Fool’s Day prank yet, Google unveiled beta testing of a new application called “Google Nose.” The application claims to be able to send a scent digitally to your computer, an action no computer has the hardware to create. Users can inhale such diverse fragrances as foods, soaps, freshly mowed grass, an airport terminal, or a dorm room.

Simply Googling these terms brought up the false technology as an offer in the sidebar on Apr. 1. Many other web sites have also unveiled April Fool’s pranks of their own. Twitter says it will now require users to pay to tweet vowels, YouTube announced plans to shut down until 2023, and The Guardian made available glasses that display the world through a liberal or conservative lens.

NOTE:  This article was edited on Apr. 4 to rectify an erroneous use of the term “Google Glass” which is a real technology currently in beta testing.
