Stop and smell the roses. Seriously, different types of flowers and fresh air can do extraordinary things to help with studying. Studies show that the smell of roses helps with relaxation, and the smell of lavender and jasmine can make you happier and lower anxiety. While studying for finals, most students will be in their rooms with their laptops being the only source of light. This is not healthy, studies show that students normally need to to a break about every 45 minutes to an hour. This break can be a quick stretch, a 10 minute instagram break, but the most effective study breaks are bike rides, walks or pretty much anything outside.

Studies show that fresh air can reduce stress, energize and generally make you happier. “I like to go outside while cramming for finals because it gets stuffy inside and it’s nice to get fresh air.” freshman Web Lehmann said. “I like to take my dog on a walk, climb a tree go on a bike ride, or go fishing.”

First Lady Michelle Obama launched Let’s Move! which is an organization trying solve childhood obesity by getting kids active for at least 60 minutes a day and eating a balanced diet. Let’s Move! helps inform parents about the risks of obesity. This doesn’t have to only be during study breaks, just being outside will help, so bring your homework outside and take breaks every hour, but stay outside as much as possible.
