Emmy Awards offered a night of surprises

Homeland broke the mold during the 64th annual Emmy Awards, winning for best actress, actor, writing, and best drama. This show, which mainly deals with terrorism, shut out Mad Men from what would have been its fifth consecutive win for Best Drama. Once again, Modern Family won Best Comedy, marking its third consecutive time of winning the title. There was no surprise when The Daily Show with John Stewart snatched up Best Variety Show for the 10th consecutive year, but the bit with Jimmy Fallon and Steven Colbert tackling Stewart and dragging him to the ground was unexpected. HBO’s Game Change took home its fair share of awards, including Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for Julianne Moore. Amid a night of television that can seem so predictable, the 64th annual Emmy’s brought its own share of surprises.
