Debaters compete at state capitol

On Oct. 17, the students involved in the St. Paul Academy and Summit School congressional debate team went to the state capitol to compete. Some students who went included juniors Lauren Woessner and Riley Wheaton as well as sophomores Lauren Hansen and Ellis Tomlinson. “In part, congressional debate is about taking on a role,” Wheaton said.  Debaters experienced debating in a proper setting. “The really ironic thing was that it was much more difficult to pull off a debate on the house floor than it was in the rooms,” he said. Among the students who placed was sophomore Hannah Stanley, taking 8th place during her first year debating for congress.
